Farmers' Market Opening Day
Description

The Bernardsville Farmers’ Market opened in 1994 and has been a fixture in the Bernardsville community ever since. Running on Saturdays from June to December, it has, over the years, expanded from fewer than ten vendors to over twenty. In 2020, a Winter Market was opened for the first time because shoppers missed their favorite foods during the winter hiatus. The sole purpose of both summer and winter markets has always been to provide easy access to local Jersey produce and products—fresh, seasonal, healthy, high-quality food--as well as to support the farmers and vendors who sell them.
Located in the NJ Transit Station parking lot on Route 202 and Claremont Road, the summer market is open 9 am to 1 pm; the winter market hours are 10 am – 12 pm. A large space to enjoy an outdoor walk while getting needed groceries and chatting with neighbors, it’s even been reported that the farmers' market experience can nourish the brain and feed the soul. It’s also a unique opportunity to talk directly to the farmers and other food vendors.
The market features farm fresh produce, food items made from farm products, and freshly prepared and frozen meals. In addition to fruits and vegetables, specialties include delicious baked goods, honey, soup, empanadas, nuts, pasture-raised meats and poultry, fresh seafood, granola, olive oil, pickles, Italian prepared food, fresh locally grown flowers, and much more. Pop-up vendors with unique products are also welcomed on occasion.
The Market runs two festivals each year, the Peach Festival in July and the Apple Festival in October, featuring free samples of seasonal cake and ice cream. In recent years, a local band, PB&J Band, has entertained people while they shop. Community groups take advantage of the foot traffic to give shoppers information on their group’s activities. We’ve also hosted a blood drive and vaccination clinic.
The market benefits from the efforts of local volunteers who give directions and answer questions each week.
